Thanks for visiting my site! I am Dr. Adam B. Lerner, Associate Professor (with tenure) of Political Science at University of Massachusetts Lowell, where I am also Director of the Bachelor of Liberal Arts Program (BLA). Until recently, I was an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at Royal Holloway, University of London, and Deputy Director of Royal Holloway's Centre for International Security (RHISC).

My first book From the Ashes of History: Collective Trauma and the Making of International Politics was published by Oxford University Press in March 2022. It received the 2023 Peter Katzenstein Award for Best First Book in IR, comparative politics or IPE, the 2023 Edgar S. Furniss Book Award from the Mershon Center at Ohio State, the 2023 APSA Ideas, Knowledge, and Politics Book Award, the 2023 ISA International Ethics Book Award, an Honorable Mention for the 2023 ISA Theory Book Award, and an Honorable Mention for the 2023 Hedley Bull Book Prize from ECPR. My refereed articles have appeared (or are forthcoming) in Review of International Political Economy, International Studies Quarterly, Perspectives on Politics, International Theory, International Affairs, European Journal of International Relations, Polity, International Studies Review, Journal of Contemporary Asia, International History Review, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Critical Review and Economic & Political Weekly. My articles have received the 2024 Heinz I. Eulau Award, the 2018 Northedge Prize, and the 2018 Emanuel Miller Prize. 

I previously served as a Public Scholar of the American Political Science Association (APSA), a Cambridge Trust Scholar, a Henry Luce Scholar, Editor-in-Chief of the Cambridge Review of International Affairs, and a reporter at Politico and the Caravan. Beyond these venues, my journalistic writing (see the 'Journalism' tab) has appeared in the New York Times, the Pacific Standard, Politico Magazine, The Print, and Himal Southasian, among other outlets. I received my PhD and MPhil (with distinction) from the University of Cambridge and a BA from Cornell University (Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude). 

In my free time, I like to snowboard, play guitar, and run. I am the proud parent of a small apricot-colored cockapoo named Moose who inspires much of my writing.
